The Great Depression was an era that has created a challenge for women who wanted to quilt. Not only money was very strong at home, but there was across the limited reserves of the country. Women must use creativity and ingenuity to create beautiful quilts. Some popular quilts of today were born of the Great - Depression.

The Great Depression, for those of us who were not present at the time was an economic crisis in North America, Europe and other areas industrialized world, which began in 1929 and lasted until 1939. Women's magazines began offering similar patterns quilting free with every issue of increasing its readership. After all, most household budgets could not afford to buy a magazine, however, few models of sewing.

So to continue to sell magazines and promote the purchase of fabrics, many manufacturers have chosen to propose models without encouraging purchases. Models such as Star of Bethlehem, wedding ring, grandmother flower garden in Dresden plate are even some models that are used today in fact the result of the Great Depression.

What is the difference between traditional and contemporary quilt?

My marriage approach and there are women who want to make a quilt for us. They want to know if I want a "contemporary" or "antique" quilt. I think it would be in the East ... I do not want to be mad, but not be old grandmother ... But my question is: what is a contemporary quilt? I do not think I've ever seen one or know what it is. Pictures would be very useful too. Thank you!

I think The big difference is contemporary quilts, not the traditional top rebuilt with some blocks (models) with a basic muslin, made with a rag cotton. Contemporary Quilts photography can be a giant, may be abstract, and can be done with any type of tissue.
